Six designers, and what each one is actually for
Veni Infantino, Richard Designs, Kevan Jon, Izabella, Jacques Vert and Veromia are the names you will find most of on our rails. They know how to cut an outfit that flatters a real body, holds its shape through a long day and photographs well, which sounds like the minimum and is rarer than it should be. Some of what we stock is the softly structured dress with a matching coat. A good deal of it is separates, which tend to be better value and are almost never what you will walk in asking for. There are hats and fascinators here too, so you can settle the whole look in one appointment instead of three. Alison came in for a hat for her daughter's wedding, and Mandy customised it until it was exactly what she had pictured.
What ninety minutes with us actually looks like
Your appointment is private and it is yours, a proper session rather than something squeezed in between bridal fittings. You get refreshments, a mirror, and the full attention of a stylist who has done this with hundreds of mothers before you. Nothing is rushed. We will tell you honestly which colours light up your face, because agreeing with you is no use to anyone. A booking fee holds the slot. If you would rather see the place first, walk in and browse.
Sizing, ordering, and the seamstress question
Most occasionwear here is ordered in your size rather than bought off the rail, so give yourself longer than you think. A few months is comfortable. If the wedding is sooner than that, come and talk to us rather than deciding for yourself that it is too late, because we can usually find a way. On alterations we should be straight with you. We do not have a seamstress in house, and that is deliberate. You may well have travelled a long way to shop with us, and it makes more sense to have the final fitting done by someone local to your own home than to drive back to Colchester for it. Allow around eight weeks for that.
